Palekh is a Russian folk handicraft of miniature painting, done with tempera paints on small items,
usually representing characters from real life, songs, but fairy tales remain the most domineering theme,
as lots of artists find inspiration in the poetry of Pushkin, Lermontov, Gorky and other Russian writers/poets/novelists.
The name “Palekh” comes from the village of Palekh, situated in the Ivanovo region in Russia.
The handicraft first appeared in that region, in the beginning of XX century.
The art of Palekh painting is still very popular today.
Works are represented in different museums throughout Russia.
