An Unusually Big (for that period) 35mm Hinged Case
is bearing silver stamps & Swiss hallmarks on inside: 
letter date – 1916

a Bear – an old Swiss hallmark for silver (used until 1933). 
 
The case is signed Rolex, Swiss & numbered 707XXX
