An early Russian Orthodox cast brass traveling triptych icon,
most likely produced in the 18th–19th century,
a form commonly associated with Old Believer devotional objects.
The central panel depicts two standing saints –
St. Nicholas the Wonderworker and St. Sergius of Radonezh,
revered protectors and spiritual teachers in Russian Orthodoxy.
The hinged side panels show important Gospel scenes,
including the Entry into Jerusalem and the Presentation of Christ in the Temple,
while the upper register features sacred imagery
such as the Holy Face of Christ (Mandylion) and the Old Testament Trinity,
symbolizing divine presence and salvation.
Designed for personal devotion and travel, triptychs like this functioned as portable icons,
allowing believers to carry a small sacred altar and place themselves
under the protection of Christ and the saints.
