A finely modelled Russian porcelain figure
of a Dancing Peasant Woman (repaired),
produced by the Gardner Factory, Moscow, late XIX century,
depicting a moment of quiet domestic movement.
She is shown lifting the hem of her apron with one hand
while the other rests at her hip, her pose subtly dynamic and naturalistic.
The costume is rendered with notable sensitivity:
a soft white blouse with voluminous sleeves falls in gentle,
convincing folds, overlaid by a pale blue сарафан-style dress
delicately patterned with small motifs.
The apron, decorated with fine red dotted ornament and a geometric border,
is particularly well executed, its drapery modelled with crisp,
lifelike creases that suggest both weight and motion.
Her face is sensitively painted, with a calm,
slightly introspective expression, downcast eyes,
and softly defined features that convey a quiet, contemplative mood.
The subtle modelling of the head and neck,
together with the natural fall of the garments,
reflects the high level of craftsmanship associated with Gardner’s genre figures.
Dimensions: H: 21, W: 9.5, D: 7 cm.
The underside bears the red overglaze factory mark
with the Imperial double-headed eagle and “Гарднеръ в Москве”
(Gardner in Moscow),
confirming production during the period
when the factory operated under Imperial patronage.
