A superb Japanese silver-mounted whisky decanter and stopper,
modelled in the distinctive form of the iconic Dimple Haig bottle,
bearing silver stamp to the vase
Standing approximately 23 cm high and weighing 726 grams in total –
with estimated amount of silver being approx. 350gr.
The vessel is richly enveloped in exceptionally detailed high-relief silver floral work.
The surface is alive with chrysanthemums and other blossoming flowers
amid finely modelled leaves, buds and intertwining branches,
creating the luxuriant naturalism so characteristic of Japanese Meiji-inspired metalwork.
Particularly striking is the contrast between the densely worked botanical decoration and
the highly polished silver ground, which gives the flowers remarkable depth and sculptural presence.
An unusually decorative and beautifully executed piece,
it combines the familiar form of a classic whisky decanter with the superb craftsmanship,
botanical precision and refined artistry associated with Japanese decorative silverwork.
