Fine & Rare, this antique pocket watch by Maret Geneve –
Another timepiece by H. Maret portraying Alexander II,
czar of Russia (r. 1855–81) was exhibited at
The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
This pocket watch dates back to circa 1850’s
Despite the age, it’s in a beautiful original condition &
in good working order
Designed as an Open Face,
the piece is centering a white porcelain dial, adorned with:
elongated, hand-rendered Roman numerals
in the slightly calligraphic Breguet Neoclassical style;
elegant Breguet (pomme évidée) hands –
characterised by their slender form and distinctive hollow circular tips –
a hallmark of fine 18th–19th century Swiss watchmaking;
running seconds sub-dial at 6
Measuring 48mm, Case is performed in solid silver,
has both lids bearing a number
Powered by Swiss Manual Key-Wound Movement,
that keeps good time
The piece comes in generic box,
