this pocket watch by Waltham Vanguard dates back to c1901
Referred as Railroad pocket watch,
it boasts a high precision movement & was used by train conductors
Despite its age,
it’s in a beautiful original condition & in excellent working order

Designed as an Open Face,
the piece is centering a white porcelain dial,
adorned with hand-painted Arabic numerals
signed & features original hands & subsidiary seconds at 6
Measuring 52mm,
Coin Edge Case is 14K gold-plated,
with both lids hallmarked & numbered 6806766,
case back is engraved in gorgeous engine turned & floral motif
Of famous model # 1892 –
all 1892 model movements followed regulations laid down
by Webster Clay Ball for Railroad watches,
the pocket watch is opening to reveal Manual Movement of 23 jewels
(which exceeds the requirement of 17 jewels),
adjusted to 5 positions & containing the mainspring
signed "Vanguard Waltham Mass" & numbered 10553009

Being among the first "railroad grade" pocket watches,
Waltham "railroad" models boast high precision movement &
was used by train conductors to ensure correct timing across the networks.
In order to be called "railroad" the watches needed to meet certain standards,
like being of a particular size, having at least 17 jewels,
having an open face & Arabic numeral (with stem located at 12),
being adjusted to at least 5 positions & be lever set.
