Crafted during the reign of King William IV period in 1835
by renowned Birmingham silversmith Edwin Jones,
the vinaigrette is nearly 200 years old, yet it’s in beautiful original condition
 
Performed in silver gilt with exceptional attention to details:
it showcases skilled craftsmanship
with the interior featuring distinct English hallmarks
(anchor for Birmingham & letter date) & maker’s mark “E.J.”
 
This piece is in excellent condition with all the detail being very crisp. 
 
Lidded hinged boxes that were used to mask odours and 
for inhaling their vapours, vinaigrette became popular in the 1780s & 
were traditionally carried in a pocket or 
suspended from a chatelaine at the waist. 
 
This prime example, featuring a deep gilt finish, 
is of typical petite form with engine turned exterior and 
a gorgeous applied and shaped floral frame
surrounding a cartouche inscribed 'Inez',
the inner hinged grille of pierced floral form;
